Big Brekkies
Big Brekkies are one of the most popular and successful services offered by KYS. Every weekday morning, Luke Penny and the KYS team run free breakfasts for young people in high schools across the Sunshine Coast. At these breakfasts, young people receive more than just food – they have the opportunity to connect with positive role models in a non-threatening and safe environment.
Shine and Strength
Shine and Strength are the two group mentoring programs run through KYS for girls and guys respectively. Over eight weeks our mentoring teams aim to generate a sense of value and purpose among every student. Self-worth, peer pressure, goal-setting and personal development are just a few of the areas covered during these powerful courses.
Mentoring
Demand for one-on-one mentoring has increased significantly in recent years as school principals and teaching staff recognise the importance and benefit of exposing students to positive young role models. KYS offers schools in our region trained mentors to work with and encourage students on both an academic and personal level.
EMPIRE Youth
Every Saturday night, young people from Noosa to Caboolture gather at the Champions Centre for a night of live music, huge games, giveaways, funny videos and inspirational teaching. Empire is the largest, weekly, fully-supervised, drug and alcohol free event for teens on the Sunshine Coast.
Lunchtime programs
Several local high schools have opened their doors for KYS youth workers to run activities and hang out with students during lunchtimes. These programs not only offer students something fun and productive to do during their lunch breaks – they also provide young people with positive role models who care.
Extreme Camps
KYS Extreme Camps are run quarterly for at-risk teenagers in our region. On these camps, young people are taught life skills and qualities in a fun and practical environment. These camps are held either in the bush or on the beach and offer activities including rock climbing, bush walks, and four-wheel driving. KYS Extreme Camps aim to help young people take responsibility for their future.
Schoolies Beach Camps
Schoolies is one of the most anticipated weeks of every student’s graduating year – and every November, KYS presents school-leavers a schoolies experience hard to pass up. KYS Schoolies Beach Camps run over five days and offer students a relaxing yet adventurous experience at Double Island Point with their friends in a fun and safe environment.
Life Seminars
These interactive, multi-media seminars are hugely effective in teaching young people life skills. KYS Life Seminars aim to address the real-life issues young people are faced with like drugs and alcohol, career choices, moving out of home and relationships. These seminars are in high demand in high schools across the region.
University
Young people come from all over the country (and the world) to study on the beautiful Sunshine Coast – and in an effort to make every student’s university experience unforgettable, KYS run fortnightly social events. Be it a game of touch football, a barbeque at the beach or a night out at the movies – the KYS Uni team promises great friendship and a whole lot of fun.
Religious Education
As part of our service to primary schools, KYS also facilitates Religious Education (RE) teachers across the Sunshine Coast, providing a valuable and appreciated service to many local schools.
